These leaks always make me think: What if one of them is true? What if the expac 2 shall be that lame? The specific leak, I'm talking about talked about Mount mastery being the one major feature of the expac. According to it the expac shall be pretty small, no new playable race or profession. No big news, just this mastery, new maps, short story and elite specs.
Sounds lame, doesn't it?
Let's think of what can we expect from the expac 2 at first:
- New elite specs - this is pretty much given. I'd be very surprised if they didn't come with it.
- New masteries - it's Anet's system of engame progression, again, pretty much given.
- New maps and story - obviously
- New fractals and fractal changes - Fractals are a good system for Anet that enables them to make a content in much easier way than for dungeons.
- New pvp maps and changes - with the current development, in my opinion it's quite logical.
- WvW content, maybe 3. map - well, there needs to be something, Anet won't leave out one mode.
- Raid content - praised by the players, engame content that offers challenge, again pretty much given.
- New gemstore content - sorry I had to :D
I don't know about you but I'm missing here a big feature that would attract outside players. A feature like Revenant was - a new profession. Or feature like Tengu as a new playable race.
I don't think that we'll ever get another new profession. With revenant we now have 3 professions for each armor weight, it seems pretty whole. Playable race is however a perfect candidate for the second expac IMO. The question is whether will Anet do something big as a new playable race. I'm not going to get into discussion about features being too difficult or time-consuming to do.
Another interesting features could be player housing, new crafting professions, a reputation system etc. There are many possibilities. But these seem like not BIG features although cool. These don't seem like the features that would persuade new people to buy the game. And as any other company Anet needs to persuade people to buy it and get as many new people as possible to do the same.
To be honest, if there won't be a new playable race in the second expac, Anet will have to come up with something incredibly awesome and big to persuade me to get it. I still feel that I can't come up with many possible features that would really excite me. That list of pretty much sure features just doesn't do it for me.
Do I expect too much?
